ABOUT

I'm Madelyn (Maddi). I design things, build things, and think a lot about both.

WHO I AM

I grew up making things with my mom, a teacher who was always doing creative projects with me and her students. That turned into a love of drawing, then digital art, then animation and anime. Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and anime were a huge part of how I developed my visual taste. As the internet evolved , I evolved with it, learning to draw digitally, watching art communities grow and shift, and seeing AI reshape the creative landscape in real time. I wanted to be someone building thoughtfully in that space, not just an active consumer of it.

Computer science came from a different but parallel love of games, technology, and functionality. I never had to choose between the two. Studying both CS and studio art at Occidental gave me the chance to incorporate both into my projects.

BEYOND WORK

Outside of school.

When I'm not designing or coding I'm lifting, watching horror films, going down video essay rabbit holes, or playing The Sims 4 (undefeated). I studied abroad in Japan and it genuinely changed how I see the world. The attention to craft and detail in everyday things there stays with me.

BACKGROUND

Computer science shapes how I think about systems and logic. Studio art shapes how I think about people and visuals. Growing up online means I have always been comfortable with creative software and am genuinely curious about where it goes next.

RIGHT NOW

Building ItEra Studio, an AI-assisted reference search tool for artists that started as a Java quiz freshman year. Also recently shipped Mise-en-Lens, a Next.js app that teaches film theory through a user's own taste. Also working on some Spotify terminal projects on the side.

WORKING STYLE

I'm ambitious and a perfectionist. I care deeply about the details and I don't stop until everything feels just right.
